Bunny Gets to Know His New Canine Bestie
Thanks, Vincula and bunny Lucius, aka the Terrible Snowball! Vincula writes:
Our two first buns (Victoria and Celestine) have been featured a couple of times on Daily Bunny [here and here], but unfortunately, we lost Victoria rather suddenly in November last year, despite several trips to different vets in the last two days of her life. That was very hard on us, and even harder on Celestine, who had never once in her life been alone before then.
We waited for a couple of months before trying to find a new "wingman" for her, but now, finally, this beautiful little guy has moved in.
We got him from an animal shelter only a few weeks ago. He's a little younger than Celestine, and only about half her size, but makes up for his tiny size with a big personality and a complete lack of fear of anything. His name was originally Snowflake, but we've redubbed him Lucius - and he's already got a bunch of other names, including the Terrible Snowball, because of his indomitable attitude, and the fact that our two cats (which are more than twice his size) often seem to be inexplicably afraid of the tiny guy.
His lack of fear remarkably also includes our 33 kg (or 73 lbs. for the metrically challenged) white shepherd dog Kannins, to her great joy - she loved our original two rabbits as well, but they were always a bit afraid of her... Not so with the new guy; they are already fast becoming best friends, as you can see in the picture, where he's saying hello to her with the traditional nose bump. She's even learned on her own to recognize when he's telling her to pet him, and usually responds with a short lick on his forehead - and even though he seems to think that her petting technique could stand some serious improvement, he seems to appreciate the gesture.
He's a forgiving guy, and he doesn't seem to mind at all that his new friend is about twenty times his size.
Soon, we will give him and Celestine more access to each other, and we will see how it goes - we hope she will like him at least half as much as we do (which would still be a whole lot).
Bonus picture where you can actually see his face:
